Please note: This is a one-year term position with the possibility of renewal. Summary The Curatorial Fellowship Program at the Harvard Art Museums is designed to broaden the experience of scholars embarking on professional and academic careers in art history who are considering the museum profession. Duties and Responsibilities: • The Rousseau Curatorial Fellow will share fully in a range of curatorial activities pertaining to the collection of European Art including acquisitions, research and documentation of the permanent collection, preparation of interpretive materials, answering scholarly inquiries and correspondence, donor cultivation and speaking publicly about the collection for visitors and students. Because of the areas of strength of the collection, the curatorial fellow will undertake a collections-related project, under the supervision of the Margaret S. Winthrop Curator of European Art, in either Dutch seventeenth-century painting and sculpture, or French nineteenth-century art. • Under the supervision of the Margaret S. Winthrop Curator of European Art, the fellow will also undertake research on an upcoming exhibition on the development and significance of color in eighteenth-century art. • Foregrounding the museum’s teaching and research mission, the Curatorial Fellow helps provide content expertise for the Art Museums’ Art Study Center by supporting classes and individual appointments six hours a week, and contributes to a rich offering of public and academic interpretive programs across various platforms. • The Fellow may supervise students and temporary employees. |

MA in Art History with specialization in European or British art. | |
• PhD preferred, with specialization in European or British paintings, sculpture or decorative arts from the Medieval period up to 1900 • Curatorial or related experience • Written and spoken proficiency in French, Italian, Spanish, German or Dutch preferred • Commitment to fostering the appreciation of works of art in a museum context • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills; ability to work independently as well as collegially |
