Manifesta Journal seminar at Tate Modern
Future(s) of Cohabitation
Panel Discussion and Seminar
Saturday 5 April 2014, 13:00 - 17:30
The MJ#17 is edited by Nataša Petrešin-Bachelez (Chief Editor), Virginie Bobin (Associate Editor) and Bisi Silva (MJ#17 Guest Editor), founder and artistic director of the Centre for Contemporary Art, Lagos. This panel discussion and seminar draws on the MJ#17 in which numerous voices from varied contexts have recently questioned the overarching narratives of origin, rootedness and authenticity, as well as the dominance of identarian models (be they "European", "Afropolitan" or "post-black") to propose tactics of resistance that stem from the marginalized, the minoritarian and the queer. The event will include contributions from the MJ editorial team, Tate curator Elvira Dyangani Ose, art historian Fatima El-Tayeb and artist Kapwani Kiwanga.
The Future(s) of Cohabitation program brings together international artists, curators and thinkers to critically assess the legacy of the concept of "hybridity" and its contemporary relevance in the field of arts, humanities and society at large.
The Manifesta Journal is an initiative of and published by the Manifesta Foundation.
