On Saturday 25 January (11am - 7pm) the symposium will take place at Dar al-Ma’mûn, Marrakech, Morocco

On Friday 24 and Saturday 25 January the second symposium in the series Artistic Justice: Positions on the Place of Justice in Art will take place in Marrakech. Translating in/Justice is curated by Dar al-Ma’mûn co-director Omar Berrada, at the invitation of EVA 2014 curator, Bassam El Baroni. Translating in/Justice seeks to elucidate the links between justice and translation, between transnational justice and translational justice.

These events are FREE and open to the public. To register a place or to send an enquiry, please contact us. Free shuttle buses between downtown Marrakech and Dar al-Ma’mûn will be available on the Saturday.

Artistic Justice: Positions on the Place of Justice in Art is a series of international public symposia leading towards EVA International - Ireland’s Biennial in 2014. The final symposium in the series It Makes us Think of a Dance and a Fête as Much as of War (On Violence) curated by Doreen Mende, will take place on Saturday 22 March at IMMA, Irish Museum of Modern Art, Dublin, speakers TBA. Artistic Justice: Positions on the Place of Justice in Art is supported by the Anna Lindh Foundation, has been developed in partnership with Dar al-Ma’mûn, Marrakech and is presented in partnership with ESAV, Marrakech, IMMA, Dublin and Mary Immaculate College, UL, Limerick.

 

EVA International 2014 opens in 3 months!

The 36th edition of EVA International is curated by Bassam El Baroni, a curator and art critic based in Alexandria, Egypt. Over 50 artists projects will be part of a programme that takes place from 12 April to 6 July in various location across Limerick City. Artists projects have been selected from an international open call for proposals that received over 2000 proposals from artists in 96 countries.

EVA 2014 will include new and existing works by Irish and international artists, special commissions to coincide with Limerick City of Culture 2014 and loans from international collections. The full programme and artists list will now be announced on 1 March.

 

New EVA team members

For 2014 EVA International is delighted to welcome 2 new members of the team: Noelle Collins as Curatorial Scholar and Sally-Anne McFadden as General Manager.

Noelle Collins has been working with EVA International as freelance Curatorial Assistant and now takes up the position of full-time Curatorial Scholar. Noelle's previous roles include: Curatorial Assistant to Helen Carey, "A Letter to Lucy", Pallas Projects; Project Manager of Curating Partnerships; Curatorial Assistant to Michele Horrigan, Askeaton Contemporary Arts; Creative Consultant for Sultan Bacchus Theatre Company, France/Egypt and Co-Director of Occupy Space 2011-13. Noelle holds a BA - Fine Art Painting from Limerick School of Art and Design, and was recently selected as the curator of Amharc Fhine Gall IX presenting "Eternal Light" a solo exhibition by Katie O’Neill at Draiocht, Blanchardstown, Dublin.

 

Sally-Anne McFadden comes to EVA International from Film and Video Umbrella, London, where she worked for three years as Project Manager on a wide range of artists’ moving image and contemporary artwork commissions. Before that Sally-Anne worked as Manager of Fresh Film Festival, Limerick. She has previously held positions at PEER Gallery, London; Darklight Festival, Dublin; and worked with a number of independent contemporary practicing artists as a producer. Sally-Anne holds a BA - Sculpture & Combined Media from Limerick School of Art and Design and an MA - Arts Policy & Practice from the Huston School of Film and Digital Media, NUI Galway.

We would like to extend a warm welcome to Noelle and Sally-Anne and look forward to working with the towards EVA International 2014.
