Gabriela Salgado
Especialised in Latin American contemporary art, she worked as curator of the University of Essex Collection of Latin American Art (UECLAA) from 1999 to 2005. Working independently in the UK and Latin America since 2005, she became a member of the San Francisco-based performance art collective La Pocha Nostra working with artistic director Guillermo Gómez-Peña as curator, co-writer and artist. She has curated exhibitions, organised events and lectured in Argentina, Mexico, Cuba, Brazil, Colombia, Spain and the UK.
Appointed curator of Public Programmes at Tate Modern in November 2006, she currently devises and manages a programme of educational events including symposia and conferences, artists’ talks and projects, courses and workshops for adults.
Continues to contribute articles and essays to Latin American art publications and is working on a research project on live art and activism in the context of the socio political conflict in Colombia.
