21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art_Kanazawa_Sanaa_2004
Placed in a strategic location of Kanazawa —Ishikawa prefecture— this audacious museum was designed by Japanese architects Kazuyo Sejima and Ryue Nishizawa of the architectural office SANAA. Opened in 2004, it rapidly become one of the most visited museums in Japan. This is mainly due to the fact that it was designed as a park where people can gather, meet and take part in different activities. This museum operates as a cultural center offering not only art galleries but also a library, an open studios for children and toddlers, shops and a restaurant. The glass-made curved window works as a sort of membrane enhancing not only human interaction but also an organic relationship between internal and external environments. According to its site, the aim of the Museum is "casualness", "enjoyment", and "accessibility". | photos by Martin Grossmann, October 2019 | URL: https://www.kanazawa21.jp/en/
