Muntadas: Asian Protocols at 3331 Arts Chiyoda
Description
First held at the Total Museum of Contemporary Art in Seoul in 2014, this Tokyo exhibition at 3331 Arts Chiyoda ( from March 20th to April 17th) precedes a planned Beijing exhibition in the near future, reflecting on the complex historical and cultural affinities between Japan, Korea, and China. The title, “Asian Protocols,” is Muntadas’ reference to the particular social conventions that take subtly different forms in these three major East Asian countries. Ranging from diplomatic procedures, unwritten social rules, and methodologies governing scientific or artistic endeavor, these “protocols” are explored through installations made up of a myriad range of visual imagery collected from each culture.
