Mariko Murata é professora do Departamento de Sociologia da Universidade de Kansai. Recebeu seu PhD pela Faculdade de Estudos de Informação Interdisciplinar da Universidade de Tóquio. Murata especializou-se em Estudos Culturais e de Mídia e Estudos Museais. Sua pesquisa é focada principalmente em "museus como mídia" e suas principais publicações incluem Museums as Ideology: Media Studies on Objects and Spaces (2014) e Popular Culture Museums: Collecting, Sharing and Consuming Culture (2013). Seus mais recentes artigos incluem "A Report on the Auckland War Memorial Museum and New Zealand's Multiculturalism' (2019) e Art/Museums and Accessibility: Creating an Audio Guide for Visually Impaired Persons' (2020). Atualmente ela é uma pesquisadora convidada no Instituto Internacional de Estudos Asiáticos em Leiden.

Mariko Murata is a Professor in the Department of Sociology, Kansai University. She received her PhD from the Graduate School of Interdisciplinary Information Studies, the University of Tokyo. She specializes in Media and Cultural Studies and Museum Studies. Her research mainly focuses on ‘museums as media’, and her major publications include Museums as Ideology: Media Studies on Objects and Spaces (2014) and Popular Culture Museums: Collecting, Sharing and Consuming Culture (2013). Her recent papers include ‘A Report on the Auckland War Memorial Museum and New Zealand’s Multiculturalism’ (2019) and 'Art/Museums and Accessibility: Creating an Audio Guide for Visually Impaired Persons’ (2020). She is currently a Research Fellow at the International Institute of Asian Studies in Leiden.
